Human Trafficking Awareness Month

By John Peck |  January 21, 2017

Now that the presents of Christmas are put away, 'Auld Lang Syne' has been sung, and the boxes, wrappings and moldy cheese balls from parties are thrown out, we should tell you about something that should never be a throw-away.

And that's the value of a precious human being, being thrown away into a degrading life of human trafficking. Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery in various forms. The 3 most common types of human trafficking are sex traffickingforced labor, and debt bondage. Forced labor, also known as involuntary servitude, is the biggest sector of trafficking in the world, according to the U.S. Department of State.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and we'd like to tell you more on sex trafficking, and one of our partner organizations here in NYC.

Restore NYC, a non-profit organization, seeks to provide aftercare to sex-trafficking survivors in critical areas of need such as criminal justice, housing. medical and job provision, and to influence public policy and awareness in sex trafficking issues. NLCHC wants to be involved in this restoration process because we agree with Restore's 4 core values of (1) the role of Christian faith in the restoration of the victim, (2) excellence in health care provided, (3) commitment to the safety and welfare of the victim, and (4) developing 'safe houses' to aid in the restoration process.

Runaways, teens, women and young girls make up the most significant categories of those given over to human sex trafficking. Thank you for your prayers in how we proceed in providing spiritual, emotional, and health care needs to many of those victimized by sex-trafficking.
