New Life Community Health Center Reaches 15,000 Visits

The New Life Community Health Center reached 15,000 patient visits on Tuesday, January 24th. Juan Perez, a local 'day worker' in the Elmhurst, Queens area, became 'Number 15 K' for us, and we all wanted to remember who hit that milestone. You see Juan in the front center of the picture with some clinic staff and volunteers.

For several years, getting to that number has largely been because of our local 'day workers' needing a shower, fresh clothes, and in some cases, a quick conversation on what's happening with them in their health. Many of them do not come through our doors in great shape. Some are dealing with hygiene problems because they don't have consistent living conditions. Others have existing problems with their health such as skin, dental or eye problems...or even too much alcohol in their bodies.

And often a problem for us with day workers: injuries sustained because of bad working conditions. Some employers in the city where day workers get their daily cash aren't providing them with adequate protection equipment, so we see some of them come in with bad lacerations, abrasions, or other injuries.

Remember the day-laborer guys that are in our care. And we're grateful to all of you who've contributed through your gifts and service that has made it possible to reach this milestone.
